How does irritable bowel syndrome affect my body?

Irritable Bowel Syndrome is also known as spastic bowel. A clear cause has not been found yet, but the intestines appear to act overly sensitive or spastic. It is often said that the symptoms in IBD are caused by stress, but that correlation hasn’t been shown in scientific research. Stress can aggravate the complaints though, so it’s important to avoid too much stress and when there is stress, to pay extra attention to a regular eating pattern, drinking enough fluids and getting enough physical exercise.
