General information about coughing

Having a cough can be very irritating and it can last for a long time, sometimes for three weeks. The lungs are covered in a layer of mucus. This layer makes sure that particles that shouldn’t go into the lungs are stopped. If many particles, dust, or other materials end up in the mucus layer you will cough up phlegm, so it gets removed. Read more about coughing below or do the symptom check and get personal information about your throat and chest complaints.

Other symptoms with your sore throat

Other symptoms that you can experience together with a cough are:

– Tickling cough: It is possible that you don’t cough up any phlegm. This is called a dry cough or a tickling cough.
– Fever, so a body temperature of more that 101.3F (38 degrees Celsius)
– Phlegm: when you cough, phlegm might go into your mouth
– A sore throat; because you have a cold or have laryngitis for example

The causes of a cough

Coughing can be caused because the lungs and the throat produce too much phlegm. This can not stay in the throat or lungs, so it is coughed up. Phlegm can be translucent, yellow or green. Aside from innocent irritation of the lungs or throat, a cough can be caused by a common cold, the the flu, or laryngitis.

Knowing what to do when you have a sore throat of laryngitis

It is important to know what you can do yourself to get rid of your cough and when it is important to contact a doctor. So do the symptom check; you answer questions about your symptoms, like coughing, chestpain, fever, phlegm, et cetera, and you will get a personal result within a few minutes, explaining everything about your complaints!
