What is an STD?
A sexually transmitted disease or STD is a disease which you can catch through unprotected sexual contact. There is a range of different kinds of STD’s. To determine whether you’re at risk for an STD and which STD’s match your symptoms, you can soon do the STD-check here.
What are symptoms of an STD?
- Pain urinating
- Pain during sexual intercourse
- Sometimes: lower back pain
- Changes in genital discharge
Is an STD serious and should I see a doctor?
STD’s range from very treatable to quite serious and not curable. When you’ve had unprotected sexual contact or suspect you have an STD, it is important to see a doctor.
What can I do about STD myself?
- Always us protection with sexual contact when you’re in a new relationship or when you’re having one night stands
- Get tested, with your partner, for STD’s when you’re in a relationship before you start having unprotected sexual contact
- Oral, vaginal and anal sexual contact are all risks for transmission of STD’s
- Only condoms are effective protection against STD’s
- Oral contraceptives, the birthcontrol-pill, IUD’s and other contraceptives do not protect against STD’s
